Surveillance of macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance in Mycoplasma genitalium – France 2021
Macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance rates are high in metropolitan France and contrast with significant lower rates in overseas France.
- In metropolitan France, macrolide resistance is more than two times higher in men than in women, which was likely to be driven by the proportion of Men who have Sex with Men.
- Macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance rates have been stable between 2018 and 2021 in metropolitan France. However, a significant increased resistance rate was observed in overseas France: 6.1% in 2018 vs 19.4% in 2021 (p<0,001) for macrolides, and 1.3% in 2018 vs 5.3% in 2021 (p<0.05) for fluoroquinolones.
